Happy 1st Birthday, Sweet Cheeks!

Big Brother Gavin holding Gage! Only a couple weeks old!

Its hard to believe that it has been one year since my baby boy Gage was born! Time goes by too fast when you have children. Our Gage is a true blessing and miracle in our lives! I suffered 2 miscarriages prior to getting pregnant with him. They both happened over a span of 7 months. After the 2nd miscarriage, we had a bunch of blood work done on me and found out that I had developed a genetic blood clotting disorder, Factor V Leiden syndrome, along with 4 other disorders. So this disorder puts one at increased risk for internal blood clots, but it only affected me while I was pregnant. At about 8 weeks pregnant, clots would begin to form in the blood vessels of the placenta, which would restrict the baby from proper nutrients, etc. essential to his/her growth. So the baby would start to "die" at 8 weeks and stop growing. At almost 12 weeks was when I began to spot and miscarry.

I had to have a D&C with the first miscarriage which was AWFUL! I knew that the baby was no longer alive, but I couldn't part with him/her. I didn't want that baby taken from me! My oldest son is 6 1/2 now and I had a completley healthy and normal pregnancy with him. So he is a MIRACLE too.

When I finally got pregnant after the 2nd miscarriage, I had to inject myself twice a day in the belly with Heparin, a blood thinner. SCARY! OUCH! I did this till 39 weeks when my labor was induced, to prevent me from going into labor on my own and risking hemorraging because my blood was water thin. Baby Gage came out PERFECT and gorgeous on April 16, 2007.

So this post is dedicated to my sweet and loving miracle baby Gage. Happy 1st Birthday sweetie! You are the GREATEST gift!

Hi Noelle. This is Lizzy. Thank you so much for your comment on my blog the other day. It is so helpful to know that as rough as things are, lots of people know what I’m going through. I feel a little guilty about that though – I wish you didn’t know what a miscarriage is like, but I’m grateful for your sympathy. Looking through your blog totally brightened my day. Your boys are so adorable! And it was fun to see the wedding stuff. Congratulations! Plus, I’m into scrapbooking and my boys are obsessed with Blue’s Clues – the stickers are cute. Keep in touch.
