Welcome to my Wizard of Oz Gala, hosted by Twyla and Lindsay of TWO CRAZY CRAFTERS!
The Wizard of Oz is one of my ALL TIME favorite movies!
I have always thought Dorothy was so beautiful and have wanted to dress up as her for Halloween!! Maybe this year I will:)

Here's my Gavin dressed as the Tin Man for Halloween when he was 4; looks like he has found the heart ♥
(I just loved this costume on him so much!!)

Well, we found a cute little lion with lots of courage here!
Gavin was a COURAGEOUS and CUTE lion when he was 2!

Here is one SWEET and SMART scarecrow at age 3!!
I know he can share some of his knowledge with the scarecrow; he's one smart little guy!

Isn't Dorothy so beautiful?
I think of her at the end of every trip/vacation we take with our children,
because when its time to leave, I say "There's NO place like home, there's NO place like home!"

I remember one year my mom dressed up as the Wicked Witch and spray painted/glittered a pair of Ruby slippers to wear; I LOVED them!!

I found them online at Torrid.com
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Look at this...
a Wizard of Oz game for the Nintendo DS game system!
I bet my Gavin would love this!!

I found this cute cake online... I really wanted to make it but with not being able to eat any SWEETS:( I didn't think it would be a good idea to have around!
Wizard of Oz won 2 Academy Awards:
Music (Original Score) - Herbert Stothart
Music (Song) - "Over the Rainbow," Music by Harold Arlen; Lyrics by E. Y. Harburg
Wizard of Oz did not win Best Picture, called Outstanding Production back then. But 1939 was a banner year for movies, the likes of which we have never seen again. The other nominees in 1939 were : "Dark Victory," "Gone with the Wind," "Goodbye, Mr. Chips," "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington," "Of Mice and Men," and "Stagecoach."
"Gone With the Wind" was the 1939 winner.
Did you know?
That Wizard of Oz was voted #6 in AFI's 100 Greatest American Movies of All Time?
That Judy Garland was voted #8 Woman in AFI's 50 Greatest American Screen Legends?
That TV made this movie. It did not show a profit or become wildly popular until it hit TV.
That Toto's real name was Terry and she was a Cairn Terrier? Only she was paid less than Judy Garland of the major stars. Well, except for the 124 midgets who were the Munchkins. They only got $50 a week.
The black and white scenes of Kansas were filmed last. This provides contrast to colorful Oz, which is a good thing since the Technicolor cameras had already been moved to the "Gone With the Wind" set.
Bert Lahr, Jack Haley and Ray Bolger had to suck lunch through a straw as they couldn't eat in those costumes.
The Cowardly Lion's tail was worked by a technicians on an overhead walkway.
Buddy Ebsen was the original Tin Man, but the aluminum in the costume gave him serious breathing problems.
Judy Garland's body was a source of concern. They gave her diet pills, and then of course, sleeping pills, the consequences of which are well known. They also put her in a tight corset as she was seen as too buxom.
"Over the Rainbow" tested badly in preview screenings so it was cut out and then later, upon reflection, reinserted. Good thinking.
Shirley Temple was the first choice for Dorothy. She was part of a trade with Fox for Clark Gable and Jean Harlow. But Harlow died and Garland got the nod.
Margaret Hamilton got so badly burned she had to be hospitalized when the fire came too quickly as she exited Munchkinland. For her melting exit, they used dry ice. Good idea.
The Horse of a Different Color couldn't be actually painted because of Animal Rights concerns. So they used colored, flavored jelly - which the horse kept licking off.
It took 20 guys a week to set up the 40,000 wire poppies.
The ruby slippers were originally silver, as they were in the L. Frank Baum book. But hey, it's Technicolor and ruby looks better. Speaking of - according to some sources, 7 pairs actually existed. The location of 5 is known. If you're sitting on a missing pair, they're worth about 1.5 million. Dollars.
JUdy Garland's daughter, Liza Minelli, married Jack Haley's son, Jack Haley Jr.

I'm really wanting some red sparkly shoes 'hehe'!
Look forward to seeing what you've made and I really enjoyed reading your facts xxx
Noelle, I am so sorry to hear you've been feeling so bad. I apreciate the effort you put into this post. Your little guys looked adorable in their costumes. Your facts were so interesting and I learned some things I didn't know! Thank you so much for participating in our celebration today! I will be back to see what you made on Mon. Get better! Twyla
I enjoyed reading all of your Oz facts! I came by earlier but you had not posted yet. Too bad you just missed my drawing....but maybe another time!
Have a great evening!☺
Aw, sorry you're not feeling good, sweetie! I hope your meds even out soon. Thanks for still doing the post! I had so much fun visiting around today!
I was so glad to hear you say that you think Dorothy was beautiful! I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder but I always thought she was WAY prettier than that ole Glinda! I love Judy as Betsy Booth in the Andy Hardy movies, too. I've read biographies about Judy and I just hate what that old Hollywood did to her. :(
Oh my goodness, Gavin is sooo adorable in all his costumes! ♥
While we watched the movie yesterday, I was real impressed with what a good little doggy Toto was! It's fun to learn that "he" was a she!
Be good to yourself- you are loved! ♥
Absolutely love the photos of your boys in costume...they look a real treat.
Happy Wiz of Oz Gala!
Hugs,
Sandi Fantasy & Fancy
Hi Noelle,
Your post is sweet and your boys sure look cute in their costumes!!
Sorry to hear that you have been under the weather..
Deb )
Happy Wiz of Oz Gala!
Absolutely love the photos .
Magical hugs
Well first off LOVE that song always wanted to sing like her - I do sing well but not THAT well lol? Who does?
Anyways LOVELY post!! Sorry you have been sick. Here is an interesting fact in case you did not know. The man who played Prof. marvel was also: the gatekeeper of Oz, the guard that cries, the carriage driver of the hourse of many colors, AND the wizard himself :)
Also! There was at one time a big urban legend that in the original film you can see a munckin commit suicide and hang himself when they are heading doen the yellow brick road after the witch tries to burn the scarecrow (this scene is now edited out in recent releases) However it is just one of the exotic birds catching a shadow with it's wings but man if you thought it was the other it REALLY did look like it!
LOVED your post - check out mine if you get a chance! And feel better!
Your post was very interesting. I didn't know a lot of that stuff.
Thanks for stopping by. I'm now a follower. :)

Hi Noelle~
Thanks for stopping by and leaving a sweet note!
Your boys are adorable, how fun to see the three characters!
I'm so sorry about your broken dishes. I hope you kept some peices to make something with. Poor kid, I know he's sorry... but yes, we know best! Sometimes I feel like quite the ogre hollering all the time to quit running, etc.
Hope you're feeling better!
What a wonderful post Noelle! Your boys are just too cute for words in the Wizard of Oz costumes!!! LOVE THEM!
Oh Noelle, I am sorry you are feeling poorly. Do you just have to get used to the medication? Hoping you feel better:)
I love movie trivia!! You know...I never saw The Wizard Of Oz! Buddy Ebsen as in Jed Clampett??
The costumes are adorable!!
BTW, I voted in your poll:D
We're like the Oz fact finders aren't we!!!
Def check out Return to Oz, I should to love the movie as a child.
Victoria xxx
PS The kiddies look fantastic in their costumes!
So sorry you are not feeling well-- I hope you are soon in the fast lane on the Yellow Brick road to recovery!
40,000 poppies?! Wow! (That scene is among my favourites! Now, when I watch Oz, I will no longer have to "pause" in order to continue what was once my neverending count. Thanks for the info-- what a time saver! LOL! NOTE OF INTEREST: W of O viewers are granted one wish per poppy!)
I definitely will return Monday to read your Emerald Greeny blog entry!
Feel better!
I loved your WOZ tribute ,Gavin looked great in his costumes. I hope you feel better soon . You are invited to my party, 8-)
~Myrna
I remember the first time I went to see the Wizard of Oz at the movie theatre, I so loved it:-) Gavin looked so precious in those costumes!! It was so interesting reading those facts about the movie, I knew some of them but a lot were new ones.
If you keep feeling poorly, I would go back to see your doctor. Your medication shouldn't be making you feel so sick...maybe it's not the right dosage or you're reacting to it? Please take care of YOU!! xoxo
Your little Gavin in all of the Wizard of Oz costumes is so cute! and what beautiful costumes.
Intereting reading all the fascinating facts you gave about the movie.
And love the craft links - that toilet paper roll Dorothy looks like fun to do.
Hope you are feeling better.
I'm sorry your not feeling well. I hope you feel better soon.
I really enjoyed reading all your facts you shared. Very interesting! I learned several things I didn't know!
Lindsey
I love the wizard of oz! your little one is cute as all the characters!
LOVE it! Thanks for sharing these fun facts. I have a little confession to make.... I have actually worn my Dorothy costume every year for the past four Halloweens. (Usually we have more than one event to go to so I'll switch up costumes but it always gets worn atleast once!) I just love it! I found the shoes in the little girls department at Target. I love them so much that I would wear them as regular shoes if my husband didn't make so much fun of me.
Can't wait to see what you've made!!
